What is Block Storage?
Block Storage is a form of data storage in which so-called logical blocks of data are provided to servers or applications. The big difference is that block storage does not (yet) contain a file system and involves the storage of only the ‘raw’ data. You can best compare a logical piece of block storage (aka a LUN) to a new local disk that is accessible over a network. The best-known protocols are iSCSI and Fibre Channel. Nowadays, you also see many ‘software-defined’ solutions, but fundamentally they provide the same thing: logical blocks of storage, on which any file system can be created. Its applications, however, are more interesting than the technical background. This technology is widely used for mission-critical applications, such as databases, virtual environments (hypervisors), and other high-performance workloads. Because each block is directly addressable, Block Storage delivers excellent performance for intensive read and write operations. For IT environments where speed, reliability, and scalability are key, Block Storage is a smart and powerful choice.
Why Block Storage
Perfect for
Workloads in virtualization, databases, and big data that demand high performance and reliability.
Often used by
IT companies looking for a reliable and scalable IT infrastructure in the EU for mission-critical applications.
Alternative to
Traditional local storage, with higher performance, more flexibility, and better scalability for modern IT environments.
Perfect for
Easily scaling up as your IT needs increase, with flexible storage capacity and seamless integration in modern environments.
More about Block Storage
Block Storage from Worldstream provides reliable performance for mission-critical workloads. Through the iSCSI protocol, you get fast, flexible, and efficient access to your data. This storage solution is ideal for production databases, cloud environments (virtualization solution), and other I/O-intensive applications that require continuous availability and low latency. Block Storage is designed for situations in which fast and frequent data access is essential, such as business-critical applications. It combines the speed of local storage with the scalability and convenience of centralized management systems. As a result, you benefit from high performance without sacrificing flexibility or control.

When do you use Block Storage?
- Flexible and efficient storage management for VMs, with a focus on performance and reliability.
- Fast, reliable storage for databases and intensive data analysis with high I/O requirements.
- In mission-critical applications that demand reliable performance and continuous availability.
